Summer Gone ALREADY??

I am absolutely stunned at how fast this summer is going!! It surely hasn’t been 2 months since I have been here… has it? Why does the summer always go by so quickly? I think for those of us in the northern part of the states it’s because we try to cram all of the things we can’t do in winter all in the space of a few short months. We know that it won’t be long before the cold comes and the summer activities we love so much are no longer an option until next summer. And this year seems especially short because last year was the winter that wouldn’t end. It stayed cold much too long this last spring. I am looking at my calendar and seeing all the fall/winter/holiday craft fairs coming up too quickly and realizing I am no where near ready for them. I don’t stop crocheting in the summer, but it does slow a bit with all the other things to do including vacation, local fairs and festivals, grandkids, and sitting by the bonfire with friends for a few s’mores and refreshments (etc.). And now today, I realized it’s the first MN Vikings pre-season game tonight, nothing says summer is almost gone like football season. With that being said, here’s the latest project I just finished…

I got a message along with a picture from a gal asking if I could make a hat like the one in the pic she sent. It’s for her son’s 3 month pictures coming up. I couldn’t believe my luck at finding the exact same material for the John Deere patches on the front. When I sent a pic of the hat to ask her if it would work, she told me at first she thought I just sent the picture she messaged me back to her. So I guess I was pretty close HAHA! It was exactly what she wanted and I am so happy that I could get it just right for her. My greatest reward is the huge smile on a customer’s face when you give them their order and it’s just what they wanted 🙂

Humbled Yet Again

Well it has come to my attention that I now have 50+ followers. I thank and appreciate each of you! It makes me think I had better get off my tush and pay better attention to this blog. When I started I had an idea of what I wanted this blog to be and haven’t quite reached my goal, but I am working on it 🙂

Then I notice that I have been nominated by Night Owl Kitchen for the Liebster Award! WOW!! I am honored. I am always surprised that people find my little blog and actually want to read it. There are so many good reads out there in blogging-land and I am definitely a very small fish in a pretty huge ocean. But once again, it gives me that extra incentive to improve my blogging skills and hopefully be an inspiration to my readers and followers.

The rules:

1. Link to the person who nominated you

2. Answer their questions

3. Nominate new blogs for the award

4. Ask them 10 new questions

5. Let the nominees know they have been nominated

My questions to answer:

1. What is the inspiration behind your blog?  I love to crochet and knit and I wanted to share the love with others.

2. What makes your blog standout from the rest? I hope that people can see how much I love crafting and that I can help inspire them as well.

3.  What’s your favorite dessert(don’t hold back now)? Pretty much anything with chocolate in it 🙂

4. Name three things that interests you other than what you post about on your blog. My grandkids, baking and shopping (haha)

5. What can you absolutely not live without? My crochet hooks of course!

6. Where would you love to travel to and stay for a month? I think It would be fun to visit England.

7. If money were no object, what kind of good would you do for others? I would give it to cancer research

8. What charity do you support financially or in spirit? American Cancer Society and the Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention programs

9. If you could have a sit down dinner with anyone in history(living or dead) who would it be and why? I have 3. My son, my mom and my brother. They all live in Heaven now and I would give anything to sit down over a home cooked meal and just visit with them again

10. Any advice for new bloggers? Just remember why you started in the first place. If you have a passion and that’s why you’re sharing about it, keep doing just that. It’s too easy to forget and get wrapped up in trying to “out-do” yourself or trying to “please the crowd” the reason you have followers in the first place is because of what you love. You can always improve your skills, but don’t confuse skills with the passion.

My Nominations

1. Made With Love By Glama 2. Lucindalines 3. Happy Little Kiwi 4. Peacefully Knitting 5. Loz’s Little Crochets 6. Nice Piece Of Work 7. Craftmanic Mommy 8. About Crochet 9. Andie Duncan 10. Mad Man Knitting

My questions for the nominees:

1. Why do you blog?

2. How many blogs do you follow?

3.What’s your favorite meal?

4.What is your favorite music and/or entertainer?

5.What can you absolutely not live without?

6.Where would you love to travel to and stay for a month?

7.If money were no object, what dream would you fulfill?

8.What is your most prized posession?

9.What is your favorite holiday?

10.Any advice for new bloggers?

I’ll be back soon with some new projects to fill you in about.

And Away We Go…

So I have taken a couple of months to gather my thoughts and rearrange my life a bit. I have cleaned out some closets, reorganized my office/studio, de-cluttered my computer and gotten rid of almost all of the inventory I had left over from my previous direct sales job. I have also reorganized my craft show displays and replaced some of my display shelves and props. I guess I am the type of person who likes to try and get as organized as possible before I move on to something new and while there are a few things that need to be done yet, I feel I am ready to take on my new and improved life. One thing that is big plus to all of this is that I have gotten rid of a lot of stress. I am clearing out the most stressful things (at least the ones I have control over) and I can’t believe the difference it is starting to make. It actually helps with the things I don’t have control over and I am starting to feel a little less stressed about those things too.

I have been working on projects (of course) through all this and here are a couple of things I have worked on.

Baby sweater and hat set

Baby booties

Some cute baby items for some of my friends. Two of my girlfriends are becoming grandmas for the first time this spring. (I’m way ahead of them both with 5 grandbabies so far… hehe) So I am in kind of a baby items kick. I should have a few more to show with the next post.

I hope you all have a great spring and I hope winter is done for good! Some fresh air to go with my fresh life would be most welcome 🙂

Fresh Year… Fresh Start

I know I’ve been away from this blog for a bit and that actually the last couple of months has been hit and miss. The last few weeks I have been very busy, but I also wanted to take some time and reorganize my priorities, gather my thoughts and get back a little of the sanity I felt I was losing during the holidays. My mind has been racing with all the things I want to accomplish both personally and professionally. Sometimes I get so overwhelmed I just kind of freeze and can’t seem to move forward.

I don’t like to set New Year’s Resolutions because they seem so easy to break, so I am concentrating on setting some goals instead. I got myself a little datebook and am in the process of writing down a few goals, starting with the smaller ones. I hope that with a basic plan in place and giving myself enough flexibility to move things around just a little as needed, I will be able to give myself a better chance at achieving them with less stress attached to them as well. We will see how that goes. Life is a constant work in progress (just like some of my projects haha) and I am glad to have the opportunity each year for a fresh start.

I did get the afghan done in plenty of time to get it to my customer the week before Christmas. And it turned out great. I ended up putting 13 strips together for those who are wondering.

I just finished a couple of decorator pillows this morning. I saw these sayings on Pinterest and thought they were too cute. So what do you think?

Christmas Cheers!

I was rummaging through some things in my closet looking for something in particular when I came across an old folder with some fun things which I forgot I even had. Back in the day before email, Facebook and Pinterest, if you came across a good joke you had to write it down or get a copy of it so you could pass it on to your friends. I found this “recipe” for fruitcake that made me giggle and in the spirit of the holidays, thought I would share it with you today. After all nothing says Christmas like fruitcake!!

images (2)

Ingredients: 1 cup water, 1 cup sugar, 4 lg. eggs, 2 cups dried fruit, 1 tsp. baking soda, 1 tsp. salt, 1 cup brown sugar, 3 cups flour, lemon juice, nuts, 1 gallon whiskey

Directions: Sample the whiskey to check for quality. Take a large bowl. Check the whiskey again to be sure it’s of the best quality. Pour one level cup and drink. Repeat. Turn on mixer and beat one cup butter in large fluffy bowl. Add one teaspoon sugar and beat again. Make sure the whiskey is still OK, cry another tup. Turn off mixer. Break two legs and add to the bowl and chuck in the dried fruit. Mix on the turner. If fried druit gets stuck pry it loose with a drewscriver. Sample the whiskey to check for tonsisticity. Next sift 2 cups of salt. Or something. Who cares… check the whiskey. Now sift the lemon juice and strain your nuts. Add one table. Spoon. Of sugar or something. Whatever you can find. Grease the oven. Turn the cake tin to 350 degrees. Don’t forget to beat off the turner. Throw the bowl out the window and check the whiskey again. Go to bed. Who the heck likes fruitcake anyway??

Didn’t I tell you all I would share some recipes once in a while? (giggle)  I hope you got a chuckle out of this.

I am super close to having the custom afghan finished. I should have it done in the next day or two. I will post a pic of the finished project as soon as I have it. Until then… have some Christmas Cheers 🙂

Let The Holli-Daze Begin!

I can’t believe how fast November just flew by! I am glad to say that I survived the craft fairs and had plenty of inventory. While the actual sales was a little less than I was hoping for, I met a lot of cool people, got my name and information for my Etsy shop out there and picked up a few custom orders.

Here’s a picture of my booth at one of the events held last week.

My booth

My booth

Now I just have to go through all of my items and start listing them on my Etsy shop. I am hoping I can start doing that tonight or tomorrow morning.

I am now working on the custom orders I got this last weekend and today is the perfect day for that. So far we have about 4 inches of snow and it’s still falling. Tonight the winds are supposed to pick up and we are in a winter storm warning. That sounds like “hooking weather” to me 🙂 I also need to get started planning for Christmas. I need to finish decorating and pick a date that will work for the majority of the family to be here. It seems that with all the activities I can’t get everyone here at the same time, but I try. I also need to start my Christmas shopping in between my Christmas gift making.

So now it’s time to start the holiday hustle and Christmas crazies. I hope I can keep reminding myself of the true meaning of the holiday and remember that stressing out about it, not only doesn’t help the situation, but misses the point of this celebration altogether.

Life In The Craft Lane

The last two weeks have been filled with a lot of personal business that needed attention. And I am happy to say that it is mostly taken care of and I feel a great weight has been lifted from my shoulders. I am now ready to start the next chapter of this crazy life I live!

One of my goals was to let go of my other J-O-B so I could concentrate on Fromm Me To You full time and I am now in the process of doing that YAY!! I am so excited and so scared all at the same time. I mean what if I fall flat on my face? What if I fail? What if I make a complete a** of myself? I am TOTALLY willing to risk it! This has been (in my mind at least) my dream job for the last 28 years and I don’t want to wait until I’m on my deathbed to say “gee maybe now I should try my dream job”. So there it is… out there… in the open… for all to see… totally exposed. I am going to give this crochet and knitting for a living thing a try.

I looking forward to having the time to keep this blog updated a little better than I have these past few weeks and put more effort into my Facebook page, Ravelry and Craftsy accounts and most of all getting some of these ideas in my head down on paper in the form of some fun patterns.

So say a little prayer for me and wish me luck. I am ready to start Life in the Craft Lane!!
