I am absolutely stunned at how fast this summer is going!! It surely hasn’t been 2 months since I have been here… has it? Why does the summer always go by so quickly? I think for those of us in the northern part of the states it’s because we try to cram all of the things we can’t do in winter all in the space of a few short months. We know that it won’t be long before the cold comes and the summer activities we love so much are no longer an option until next summer. And this year seems especially short because last year was the winter that wouldn’t end. It stayed cold much too long this last spring. I am looking at my calendar and seeing all the fall/winter/holiday craft fairs coming up too quickly and realizing I am no where near ready for them. I don’t stop crocheting in the summer, but it does slow a bit with all the other things to do including vacation, local fairs and festivals, grandkids, and sitting by the bonfire with friends for a few s’mores and refreshments (etc.). And now today, I realized it’s the first MN Vikings pre-season game tonight, nothing says summer is almost gone like football season. With that being said, here’s the latest project I just finished…
I got a message along with a picture from a gal asking if I could make a hat like the one in the pic she sent. It’s for her son’s 3 month pictures coming up. I couldn’t believe my luck at finding the exact same material for the John Deere patches on the front. When I sent a pic of the hat to ask her if it would work, she told me at first she thought I just sent the picture she messaged me back to her. So I guess I was pretty close HAHA! It was exactly what she wanted and I am so happy that I could get it just right for her. My greatest reward is the huge smile on a customer’s face when you give them their order and it’s just what they wanted 🙂
I am so excited! I have finally finished my Heart Of My Heart baby blanket and I now have both the blanket and the pattern listed in my Etsy shop. I like the way it turned out and think it’s a super cute pattern for the newest addition to your family.
I would love to hear your thoughts and what you think of it.
The pattern is available for purchase here Heart Of My Heart . I made 4 strips of Tunisian crochet using tunisian knit stitch and tunisian reverse stitich to make the heart pattern and then connected the strips with basic hairpin lace crochet and added a ruffle stitch border. For this blanket I used Bernat Baby Sport in Baby Pink.
I have to admit that the border had me a little flustered for a bit. I pretty much knew what I wanted it to look like, but had a hard time finding just the right way to do it. Oh what a happy day when I finally got it figured out (after ripping it out and re-doing it about 4 times). But after seeing the end result it was worth the extra work. Just goes to prove there is great worth to “sticking with it”.
I am working on a baby blanket design using Tunisian crochet and Hairpin Lace. It’s coming along quite nice and the picture in my head and what’s actually coming off my hook are pretty close 🙂 Sometimes I try something out and it’s not quite what I pictured.
This is a sneak peak at my Heart Of My Heart baby blanket. When I get it all together and have the finishing touches on the pattern I will have it available on my Etsy shop. This isn’t the best pic I have ever taken, but let me know what you think of it so far.

I have also finished a custom order for some adult size character hats. One skunk and one owl hat done and delivered. I am so glad to hear that she thinks they are ADORABLE!
Adult size fun hats
The owl hat I have made in kid sizes before, so I just adjusted the pattern for adult sizes. I had never made the skunk before so I looked up some ideas on Pinterest and came up with what you see here. Looks like I’ll have to remember what I did so I can make a few more 🙂
Now I’m off to finish a couple more custom orders and add some things to my inventory for the craft fairs coming up. Happy hooking everyone!!
All I have to do is go on Facebook and I am bombarded with baby pictures. It seems to be a real baby boom in my area lately 🙂 So of course I am still making baby stuff, which is GREAT because I love it.
First there are a few hats. The Turkey hat was a custom order I made for the my hairdresser… she loved it 🙂 The other two I just whipped up for a craft event I have coming up.
Little Ladybug Hat
Snowy Owl Hat
One more item I made was a baby dress. This pattern came from the book Crochet Baby Boutique II from Annie’s It turned out so cute! The only modification I made was that I didn’t have snaps on hand so I used buttons on the back.
I used Bernat Baby Sport in pink and white.
I am working a cute Tunisian / Hairpin Lace crochet baby blanket that I’m designing as well. Hope to have an update on that the next time. Until then Happy Crocheting!!
Easter baskets are done and delivered! I made them for the grandkids and because of all the unique family dynamics of the family, I had Easter dinner at our house on Palm Sunday.
Flowers and butterflies for the girls… red tractors for the boys.
Of course grandma went a little overboard in filling them so I guess next year I’ll have to make them bigger haha. I should have gotten a picture of them filled, but alas, I got busy getting ready for a house full of people and forgot. The funny part is when the girls noticed they were crocheted and asked if I made them then how did the Easter bunny leave them? I had to do some quick thinking and mentioned that when I talked to the Easter Bunny I asked if I could send the baskets I made along for him to fill with goodies and then get them back here for our Easter party. Thank goodness they believed me 🙂
I have some craft fairs coming up soon again so I am busy, busy, busy getting things made for those. I need to fill my tables you know! So I’ll have some new pics of projects soon.
Yesterday morning we woke up to no electricity. It’s one of those things that you take for granted until it’s no longer there. Now days it is almost impossible to get ANYTHING done without it, no showers, no morning coffee (which is a nightmare scenario for me), no heat, no nothing, even the cordless phone won’t work so you better hope you remembered to charge up your cell phone the day before.
We went without power the entire morning as it didn’t get fixed until almost noon. So what’s a girl to do when you can’t do anything? You pull out your crochet hook and/or knitting needles of course! It is awesome how you can get quite far on a project when you don’t have the distractions of all the electronic toys and gadgets our homes are crammed full of. And if the heat isn’t working, make sure you have an afghan going, it will keep you warm while you work on it 🙂
Current WIP 🙂
So now the power is back and all is well again. The distractions are back, but I have to admit… I did kind of miss them, even if it was only for a few hours.
I love it when someone contacts me on Facebook and says “Can you make me this?” along with a picture of something they have found somewhere. It’s definitely a challenge, but I think the phrase “Nailed It!” applies here 🙂
It just so happens that the item they wanted this time is from a crochet along on another site and the pattern was posted free for those wanting to participate. I also found the thread of the pic they sent to me and she actually mentioned the yarn brand and color she used. It doesn’t get any easier than that! So I made one for her, posted the picture of it on her timeline and asked if that would work, then her friend chimed in and wanted one too LOL, so guess what… I made TWO.
Here are the custom order neck warmers I made this week. Aren’t they the cutest things??
The pattern is from Red Heart and can be found here… Button Up Neck Warmer …I used Red Heart Super Saver in the color Day Glow and it’s beautiful for spring! This project is quite simple and it only took about 2 hours to complete. It is a part of The Crochet Crowd’s ‘Spring has Sprung” crochet challenge. If you want to learn more about it click here… Spring Has Sprung …
Now it’s off to the next project.
How does the time go so fast? When I started to crochet and knit it was because my friends and I were having our babies and I wanted those beautiful baby blankets. I ended up making 24 or 25 in the next 5 years for me and my friends & family. Now I have grandchildren (5 to be exact) and so many of my friends are now grandmas too. So now we are coming full circle and I’m back on the baby blanket bandwagon once again 🙂 Here are just 2 of my latest blankets.
The blue one is called Delicate Souvenir and was made with Bernat Baby Sport in Baby Denim Marl.
The peach one is called Lacy Treasure and is made with Knit Picks Brava Sport in Seashell.
Both of these crochet patterns along with 5 other absolutely beautiful and classic patterns can be found in the book Keepsake Baby Afghans from Leisure Arts. All 7 designs are by Kay Meadors and it is my new “go to” baby blanket book. They are all gorgeous and classic designs that can be used for years to come.
The peach one was already given as a baby gift to a family member. I plan to make a few more of each of the 7 patterns for my Etsy shop and the craft fairs I have coming up. Now all I need is to find time to make them in between spending time with all those grandbabies!
So I have taken a couple of months to gather my thoughts and rearrange my life a bit. I have cleaned out some closets, reorganized my office/studio, de-cluttered my computer and gotten rid of almost all of the inventory I had left over from my previous direct sales job. I have also reorganized my craft show displays and replaced some of my display shelves and props. I guess I am the type of person who likes to try and get as organized as possible before I move on to something new and while there are a few things that need to be done yet, I feel I am ready to take on my new and improved life. One thing that is big plus to all of this is that I have gotten rid of a lot of stress. I am clearing out the most stressful things (at least the ones I have control over) and I can’t believe the difference it is starting to make. It actually helps with the things I don’t have control over and I am starting to feel a little less stressed about those things too.
I have been working on projects (of course) through all this and here are a couple of things I have worked on.
Baby sweater and hat set
Some cute baby items for some of my friends. Two of my girlfriends are becoming grandmas for the first time this spring. (I’m way ahead of them both with 5 grandbabies so far… hehe) So I am in kind of a baby items kick. I should have a few more to show with the next post.
I hope you all have a great spring and I hope winter is done for good! Some fresh air to go with my fresh life would be most welcome 🙂
I know I’ve been away from this blog for a bit and that actually the last couple of months has been hit and miss. The last few weeks I have been very busy, but I also wanted to take some time and reorganize my priorities, gather my thoughts and get back a little of the sanity I felt I was losing during the holidays. My mind has been racing with all the things I want to accomplish both personally and professionally. Sometimes I get so overwhelmed I just kind of freeze and can’t seem to move forward.
I don’t like to set New Year’s Resolutions because they seem so easy to break, so I am concentrating on setting some goals instead. I got myself a little datebook and am in the process of writing down a few goals, starting with the smaller ones. I hope that with a basic plan in place and giving myself enough flexibility to move things around just a little as needed, I will be able to give myself a better chance at achieving them with less stress attached to them as well. We will see how that goes. Life is a constant work in progress (just like some of my projects haha) and I am glad to have the opportunity each year for a fresh start.
I did get the afghan done in plenty of time to get it to my customer the week before Christmas. And it turned out great. I ended up putting 13 strips together for those who are wondering.
I just finished a couple of decorator pillows this morning. I saw these sayings on Pinterest and thought they were too cute. So what do you think?
Mr & Mrs Pillows 🙂
I wish for each of you a wonderful new year filled with all of God’s blessings
